Electrical equipment can cause explosions in certain atmospheres. Equipment used in areas where explosive concentrations of dusts or vapors may exist must be equipped with special wiring and other electrical components for safety purposes.  When using hydrocarbon extractors it is imperative that the room be adequate to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

In North America, the most widely used hazardous location classification system is defined by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Publication 70, National Electric Code® (NEC) in Articles 500 to 506. The type of hazardous substances that is or may be present in the air in quantities sufficient to produce explosive or ignitable mixtures is specified.

The NFPA establishes area classifications based on Classes, Divisions and Zones that when combined delineate the hazardous conditions of a specific area. This classification method provides a description of the hazardous material that may be present, and the probability that it is present, so that the appropriate equipment may be selected and safe installation practices followed. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has adopted these hazardous classifications from the NEC and they are defined in 29 Code of Federal Register (CFR) 1910.399.

Class I, Division 1: There are three different situations that could exist to classify an area as a Class I, Division 1 location:

1.  Ignitable concentrations of flammable gases or vapors may exist under normal operating conditions.
2.  Ignitable concentrations of such gases or vapors may exist frequently because of repair or maintenance operations or because of leakage.
3.  Breakdown or faulty operation of equipment or processes might release ignitable concentrations of flammable gases or vapors, and might also cause simultaneous failure of electric equipment.

Our “keep it simple” design was an essential part of our requirements, making our system one of the simplest to operate. Designed to be a high flow extraction system, multiple columns can be extracted before the need to clean out the recovery basin. We wanted a system that would cover all the bases and allow the extraction technician to perform multiple types of extracts with only one machine. With our system you can do the standard wash, timed soak, or “showerhead” extraction methods. Our upgraded unit, the Essential-4K Cryo is a thermally jacketed unit, which can perform extractions at a temperature range of +125F to -40F. By allowing the user control of the extraction temperature, multiple types of final products can be achieved. At higher temperatures, it will be a darker, more full extract, while at lower temperatures you will recieve a much lighter, “de-waxed” product. Your yields will vary accordingly, larger yields when hot and lower when cold.

Upon the investigation of other systems, many visually suggest the use of  the darker blue handle ball valves. This is an inappropriate valve for LPG use. To combat this, we only use yellow handle gasline valves that are UL Listed for LPG use. Our Cryo unit valves use LPG Certified ball valves that are rated to -90C/-130F. All sections which are isolated by valves have mandatory pressure relief valves preset to start release at 400 psi. As well as Pressure Relief Valves, we also provide the user with Differential Pressure Gauges on all isolated systems for additional safety. Our pressure gauges have a range of -30 to 400 psi to ensure the user can clearly know the state at which the piping is experiencing. Having pressure gauges on all isolated chambers insures maximum safety to the user. Accidentally opening a pressurized chamber is DANGEROUS!

Our system was designed to have a minimal footprint (24" x 20" x 72"). Due to the fact that most labs are small with tight spaces, our system is capable to fit into the tightest of spots.
